As we read and listen to your comments from our last email regarding the possibility of a School Bus Depot at the Brickyard School site, we would like to point out there is a significant difference between the decision of whether to use the Brickyard School Site for a School Bus Depot and the previous Brickyard soccerplex deal.
The decision of whether to put a School Bus Depot on the Brickyard site will require a vote of both the Montgomery County Board of Education and the Montgomery County Council. As currently envisioned, monies would need to be approved by both the County and MCPS to fund the Bus Depot project. For that reason, among others, we have encouraged all voters to better understand the candidates running for these offices and their position on using the Brickyard School site for a Bus Depot. As many of you have expressed, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to look at Brickyard Road and make a decision that it is not fit for this type of school bus traffic.
The Brickyard Ballot is on our website, as are the candidate questionnaires for those endorsed on the Ballot. The Board of Directors used three key guiding principles in making endorsements: (i) past support of the Coalition; (ii) position on locating a Bus Depot at the Brickyard School Site; and (iii) electability.
We encourage all of you to reach out and meet the candidates running for these offices. Most of the Board of Education decisions will be made in the General Election in November. But Jill Ortman-Fouse, endorsed by the Gazette Newspapers and our endorsed candidate in the At-Large BOE primary race, is holding a Meet and Greet fundraiser next Monday, June 2, from 7:00-8:30 PM at the home of Dennis and Stacy Kelleher, 8704 Brickyard Road, Potomac, MD 20854. Click Here for more information.
Beth Daly, candidate for County Council At-Large, is holding a meet and greet on June 13 at the home of Diana Conway, 10600 River Road in Potomac from 7:00-9:00 PM. She has been endorsed by the Gazette Newspapers and by the Coalition as well. Click Here for more information.
REMEMBER: The primary is June 24, but early voting begins June 12. You can also still request an absentee ballot. The BOE race is non-partisan, so everyone can vote in that primary. Your vote and your voice can make a difference. Please forward this email to your family and friends in Montgomery County.
